July 21, 2010: Adrian Havens Scores Pilot Assignment


Adrian Havens (ProSeries 29) signed an agreement to write the pilot for an animated series.

The project is being done by Crescent Fawn Studios and is based upon characters of the Pinkerton’s National Detective Agency during the middle 19th century.

July 19, 2010: Lis Anna Sells Rights to Short Film


Lis Anna (ProSeries 19) has sold the rights to a four time Award winning short film she wrote, directed, and produced.   The non-exclusive rights were purchased by Movieola and Lis was represented by her sales agent Ouat Media

July 8, 2010: Clark Ransom Signs With Agent


Clark Ransom (ProSeries 20) just signed with the Whitt Brantley Management and Talent: A Literary, Film and Television Agency to represent his comedy script, “On Becoming Grim.”

Whitt Brantley has represented other writers on movies ranging from $5 to $20 million in budget.  The agreement was signed after Clark got 18 requests for his script from some top production companies. 

This is a major step, Clark. Great work.

 

July 7, 2010: Lynn Dickinson Lands an Agent

 

Lynn Dickinson (ProSeries 18) signed with New York literary agent Louise Fury, of the L. Perkins agency, to represent the book “Brother Haters Anonymous.” 

This occurred after a wild July 4th weekend where Lynn submitted the manuscript on Saturday night, had it read on Sunday, and had an exclusive agreement by Monday afternoon. 

Lynn’s screenplay of the same title (Brother Haters Anonymous) is currently in development at Suntaur Entertainment, and Lynn is being managed by one of ScreenwritingU’s favorite movie producers, Zac Sanford of Elsboy Entertainment.

You’re building quite a team, Lynn.  This movie is going to happen! 

July 2, 2010: Sheila Seclearr Hired to Rewrite Screenplay


Sheila Seclearr (ProSeries 19) has been hired by Ray Zimmerman and Tammy Smith Zimmerman to do a rewrite for their upcoming film, “The Fine Art of Living.”

The Zimmermans are both former executives from Sony Pictures and have worked on hundreds of significant films, like Jerry Maguire and As Good As It Gets.  Bruce A. Block has also expressed interest in directing “The Fine Art of Living”, which is set in New Mexico.

Sheila is currently in the midst of the rewrite, taking producer and director notes, and having a blast.  She writes screenplays under the pen name J.J. Ramo.

June 29, 2010: Diane M. Meyer Gets Paid Writing Assignment


Diane M. Meyer (ProSeries 27) has been hired by Joe Nasser of Nasser Entertainment to write a feature script.

The deal originated after Diane responded to a request from the producer.  Over time, she built a relationship with him and was brought in to do the writing assignment. 

This is exciting, Diane.  You’re on your way. 

June 23, 2010: Mark Moran Hooks Up With PR Company


Mark Moran (ProSeries 10) just signed a deal with WDC Media PR to promote his movie, “Blast and Whisper” — the first film that focuses on the Biblical story of Elijah.

WDC Media PR, a leading PR partner who lists Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” as one of their clients, will help promote the film through TV appearances, radio interviews, and other ads.

June 16, 2010: AJ Ferrara Lands a Writing Assignment

 

AJ Ferrara (ProSeries 19) has been hired to rewrite a feature film in development at Little Studio Films.

The deal was first proposed at a lunch meeting while AJ was in Los Angeles meeting with producers.

Way to go, AJ.  This is the start of some great things!

June 11, 2010: Julie Kenner’s Deal With 1492 Pictures!


Julie Kenner (ProSeries 20) got news that her book “Carpe Demon: The adventures of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom” has been funded for a movie as part of a deal between 1492 Pictures and CJ Entertainment

The project was unveiled last week as part of the new slate of the two companies who have signed a three-year development deal.

May 28, 2010: Joshua Durkin Film gets Funding

Joshua Durkin (ProSeries 23) will write and co-produce the feature film “Dead Cat Bounce” with director Daric Gates

Earlier, the two completed the short for “Dead Cat Bounce” and it won “best short” at the Idyllwild Film Festival and the Monaco Film Festival.

On the heels of the festival wins, they have have commitments for half the funding for the feature, with more meetings scheduled with investors in the near future.

Each step prepares you for the next.

May 26, 2010: Don Macnab-Stark Hired to Rewrite Horror Flick

Don Macnab-Stark (ProSeries 6) has been hired by Norwegian writer/producer Martin Molenda to rewrite a horror screenplay to be filmed next year.

Don has already rewritten the treatment and story outline, and is now working on the actual script.  He will receive co-writing credit. 
 
This is Don’s second paid writing assignment and he’s had three scripts optioned.

May 23, 2010: Joshua Durkin Completes Writing Assignment

Joshua Durkin (ProSeries 23) has completed a writing assignment on a feature screenplay.  The urban thriller will be produced by Terrence Levi of Streetlife Worldwide Entertainment.

Always nice when scripts get approved.

May 12, 2010: Claire V. Riley Makes Variety with Stars Attached

Claire V. Riley (ProSeries 9) just made Variety.  Five name actors have been attached to her script “The Perfect Family” and the project is moving forward.   See Variety article

The cast will include Emily Deschanel (star of Fox’s hit TV drama “Bones”), Kathleen Turner, Jason Ritter, Michael McGrady, and Richard Chamberlain

A rewrite was done by Paula GoldbergAnne Renton is set to direct, with Cora Olson and Jennifer Dubin.  The movie is set for release in 2011. 

This is very exciting news, Claire.  Can’t wait to see the movie! 

 

April 21, 2010: Jon Bonnell Makes Inktip Magazine Front Cover

Jon Bonnell (ProSeries 11) had a feature article in Inktip Magazine about his movie Star Quest: The Odyssey.

Jon directed the movie, which was written by Carlos Perez.

Inktip Magazine goes out to 2500 producers, so this is some good industry PR for Jon.  See the article here.

April 19, 2010: Mahora Peters Has Script Optioned

Mahora Peters (ProSeries 12) has had one of her scripts, SOIL OF MY SOUL, optioned by New Zealand producer/director Popo Lilo.

Mahora and Popo Lilo are currently developing the script in preparation for production.   Victoria Wu (ProSeries 18) has been hired to do coverage and a polish.

April 17, 2010: Jennifer Quintenz Gets WGA Recommendation and Makes Variety

Jennifer Quintenz (ProSeries10) has become one of 20 writers the WGAw is currently recommending to TV producers this week. 

It is through their Writer Access Project, which is designed to assist qualified writers who have TV staff writing experience by making samples of their work available to TV showrunners, industry execs, managers, and agents.   See the story in Variety

Jennifer was previously a staff writer for two TV shows and has an extremely bright future.

April 12, 2010: Beth Scrimger has Script Optioned

Beth Scrimger (ProSeries 24) had her script TWIN SOULS optioned by producer Elihu Upham of Two Lab Productions/Straw Hat Films.

The project is now in development and out for funding.

April 5, 2010: Si Dunn’s Script Optioned, Talent Attached.

Si Dunn (ProSeries 3) has had another script optioned.  This is the second time that “Gabe’s Gambit” has been optioned and this time, the producers have already attached talent. 

Producers Stephen Jules Rubin and Ord Morgan have attached Giancarlo Esposito to star and direct.  Tentative plans are to shoot the movie in Baltimore, MD.

Mar 18, 2010: ML Gemmill in Development with Ahmet Zappa!

ML Gemmill (ProSeries 25) just completed a six-month long development process with producer Ahmet Zappa of MonsterFoot Productions on a multi-platform project titled “Sci-Fi High.”

 

The project is currently being shopped at CAA, Disney XD, Nickelodeon and SyFy Channels and is rumored to have a “Recommend to Buy” from one of the Studios. 

 

There’s exciting news on the way.

Mar 16, 2010: Simon Garrity Film Wins Santa Barbara Festival

Simon Garrity (ProSeries 4) enjoyed a win as the story he originally crafted called EXAM won the Panavision Independent Spirit Award at the Santa Barbara Film Festival.  (See Hollywood Reporter announcement.)

 

Simon’s original draft was rewritten and shot by writer/director Stuart Hazeldine.   Simon received “Story by” credit, with “Written by” going to Hazeldine. 

 

EXAM was picked up by IFC Films for distribution.  You can see the film’s website here.

March 9, 2010: Kevin Lee Miller Produces Oscar Tribute Video

Kevin Lee Miller (ProSeries 17) produced the 3-minute “John Hughes Tribute” video that was shown at the Academy Awards on Sunday night. With 40 million viewers, that’s pretty exciting.

 

The tribute was a great compilation of movies like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, and Home Alone.

Mar. 8, 2010: Kenneth Kemp Hired to Adapt Novel

Kenneth Kemp (ProSeries 24) was commissioned to adapt a novel titled NEAR FALL.   The author and producer, Joe Reasbeck, has secured funding. 

 

NEAR FALL is a tween coming-of-age story set in the world of junior wrestling.  Ken is also set to direct the movie.

Mar. 2, 2010: J.A. Carlton Signs with Manager

J.A. Carlton (ProSeries 24) signed with The Blackwood Company’s management division 3R Entertainment.  They’re located in Beverly Hills. 

 

After reading her ProSeries script titled “Soul Hunter,” the manager contacted Jill and requested to represent her.   It’s always exciting when that happens.

Feb. 25, 2010: Alyssa Alexandria Script Hits Tracking Boards

Yesterday, Alyssa Alexandria (ProSeries 7) and Henry Gilroy (head writer for Lucasfilm Animation) had their script “The Olympian” land on Hollywood’s tracking boards.  Within hours, it was requested by 17 big players, including Red Wagon, Legendary Pictures, and Jerry Bruckheimer’s company. 

 

Alyssa is repped by 6-17 Management and Henry by The Gotham Group.  Both parties share “Story by” credit, with Alyssa getting “Written by” credit.   See it on Spec Chaser

 

Think good thoughts for Aly.  This could be a big one. 

 

Feb. 22, 2010: Charlie R. Barnett Hired to Write Movie

Charlie R. Barnett (ProSeries 19) has been hired by director Jose L. Arjona to write the full length feature of the award-winning short “In the Memories.”

The short was originally made in Spanish. The feature will be written in English. Facebook page for En La Memoria.

Looks like it’s going to be a great movie, Charlie. Can’t wait to see it.

Feb. 18, 2010: Mark Kratter Completes Writing Assignment

Mark Kratter (ProSeries 9) just completed a script-for-hire adaptation of a well-known graphic novel for Stephen L’Heureux of Solipsist Films.   L’Heureux is one of the producers on the SIN CITY franchise.

 

Mark has multiple projects in development right now, both as a writer and producer.

Feb. 16, 2010: Don Macnab-Stark’s Script Optioned!

Don Macnab-Stark (ProSeries 6) and co-writer Rhys Trenhaile have had their script “The Bulldogs” optioned by Canadian producer Jeff Nadalin.

As that project moves forward, Don and Rhys have another script that will soon be shopped a producer as a TV Series for the U.S. market. More news on that later.

This is Don’s third script option.

Feb. 15, 2010: Lee Tidball Lands Agent!

Lee Tidball (ProSeries 15) is now being represented by Jo-Ann Carol of Monterio Rose Dravis Agency.   In the midst of promoting his script, Lee got it to a director – who gave it to her agent – and the connection was made. 

 

Jo-Ann Carol is currently shopping Lee’s script to Studios.

Feb. 9, 2010: Nicole Jones Hired to Write Sequel

Nicole Jones (ProSeries 19) has been hired to write the straight-to-DVD sequel to GENE GENERATION starring Bai Ling with Jesse Ventura and with MyAnna Buring (THE DESCENT) also attached. 

The movie is being produced by Bleiberg Entertainment, directed by Pearry Reginald Teo, and is scheduled to start production in March.   See an announcement on the movie.

Feb. 1, 2010: Nick J. Scott Signs with Respected Management Co.

Nick J. Scott (ProSeries 18) has signed with Zero Gravity Management in Los Angeles.  

Zero Gravity manages, but has also produced 10 films in the last seven years.

The connection was made after Nick’s script “Accuracy of Fire” hit Quarterfinalist in the Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting competition that is sponsored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
