Mahora Peters (ProSeries 12) has had one of her scripts, SOIL OF MY SOUL, optioned by New Zealand producer/director Popo Lilo. Mahora and Popo Lilo are currently developing the script in preparation for production. Victoria Wu (ProSeries 18) has been hired to do coverage and a polish. Great work, Mahora.
Jennifer Quintenz (ProSeries10) has become one of 20 writers the WGAw is currently recommending to TV producers this week. It is through their Writer Access Project, which is designed to assist qualified writers who have TV staff writing experience by making samples of their work available to TV showrunners, industry execs, managers, and agents. Beth Scrimger (ProSeries 24) had her script TWIN SOULS optioned by producer Elihu Upham of Two Lab Productions/Straw Hat Films. The project is now in development and out for funding. Well done, Beth.
Si Dunn (ProSeries 3) has had another script optioned. This is the second time that “Gabe’s Gambit” has been optioned and this time, the producers have already attached talent. Producers Stephen Jules Rubin and Ord Morgan have attached Giancarlo Esposito to star and direct. Tentative plans are to shoot the movie in Baltimore, MD. This
ML Gemmill (ProSeries 25) just completed a six-month long development process with producer Ahmet Zappa of MonsterFoot Productions on a multi-platform project titled “Sci-Fi High.” The project is currently being shopped at CAA, Disney XD, Nickelodeon and SyFy Channels and is rumored to have a “Recommend to Buy” from one of the Studios.
Simon Garrity (ProSeries 4) enjoyed a win as the story he originally crafted called EXAM won the Panavision Independent Spirit Award at the Santa Barbara Film Festival. (See Hollywood Reporter announcement.) Simon’s original draft was rewritten and shot by writer/director Stuart Hazeldine. Simon received “Story by” credit, with “Written by” going to Hazeldine.
Kevin Lee Miller (ProSeries 17) produced the 3-minute “John Hughes Tribute” video that was shown at the Academy Awards on Sunday night. With 40 million viewers, that’s pretty exciting. The tribute was a great compilation of movies like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, and Home Alone. See it at the Oscars.org
Kenneth Kemp (ProSeries 24) was commissioned to adapt a novel titled NEAR FALL. The author and producer, Joe Reasbeck, has secured funding. NEAR FALL is a tween coming-of-age story set in the world of junior wrestling. Ken is also set to direct the movie. Great job, Ken!
J.A. Carlton (ProSeries 24) signed with The Blackwood Company’s management division 3R Entertainment. They’re located in Beverly Hills. After reading her ProSeries script titled “Soul Hunter,” the manager contacted Jill and requested to represent her. It’s always exciting when that happens. Yesterday, Alyssa Alexandria (ProSeries 7) and Henry Gilroy (head writer for Lucasfilm Animation) had their script “The Olympian” land on Hollywood’s tracking boards.
